HOMESTAKE VALLEY

Located 12 miles south of Vail, the Homestake Valley contains one of the most valuable wetland ecosystems and wildlife habitats in Colorado. This 9-mile valley is bestowed with dozens of beaver ponds, ancient fens and hidden meadows threaded along the pristine waters of Homestake Creek.

The valley is home to a variety of wildlife including moose, elk, deer, black bear, marmots, fox, songbirds, waterfowl and the endangered lynx and boreal toad. As a principle watershed for the Eagle River, its preservation is also vital to the well-being of our economy and ranching community.

Unfortunately, Homestake Valley is currently threatened by another large scale dam project that would devastate its ecosystem and divert even more water from the Eagle River Valley. The EVW project continues to document and share the immeasurable value of this treasured landscape in order to increase public awareness and leverage the ongoing campaign to protect it.
